Colombo by Tuk Tuk
Navigate the streets of Colombo by tuk tuk, visiting religious sites, historic landmarks and the bustling market
Duration of tour: 3 hours 30 mins.
After a brief walk through the heart of the city’s CBD hop in a tuk tuk and head for Colombo harbour. From there, pass through Chatham Street, a growing dining and entertainment district that was off-limits for more than 30 years due to civil war. Move on to the heart of the trading district, Pettah, spending half an hour exploring market stalls around the Red Mosque. Next stop is 360 year old Wolvendaal Dutch Reformed Church. It may not be in the best shape, but it’s one of the most significant reminders of the various colonial occupations. Walk through the church, which is filled with old tombstones of Dutch governors. From there, on to a Hindu place of worship, the Sri Kaileshwarm Kovil. Marvel at the colourful paintings and murals. Set off for Independence Square. The monument and park here are of great significance to Sri Lankans. Finally one of the main Buddhist temples., the cool, calming Gangaramaya, known for its architecture, paintings, and collection of artefacts from various historical eras.
English-speaking guide, tuk tuk, entrance to Wolvendaal Church, Sri Kaileshwarm Kovil and Gangaramaya.
