Presenting the colonial heritage of George Town, Penang

Duration of tour: 4 hours


Commence with visits to a pair of reclining Buddha images – in the Thai style at Wat Chayamangkalaram, and in the Burmese style at Dharmikarama Kyaung. Take a trip back in time at the Colonial Penang Museum and get an insight into the lifestyles of the British administrators and wealthy merchants. Stop for a little retail therapy of local products at the Cocoa Boutique before heading down town into a zone filled with colonial buildings and where the famous historic Fort Cornwallis is situated. The fort was built in the late 18th century by the British East India Company and to date, its old structure and cannons are still intact. Continue on past the Queen Victoria Memorial Clock Tower and proceed to the waterfront and Clan Jetty, where houses are built on stilts. Take a slow drive through the Street of Harmony that features houses of worship for the four main religions , namely the St. George’s Church, Goddess of Mercy Temple, Sri Maha Mariamman Temple and Kapitan Keling Mosque.
